HOW TO GET TO LANIKAI

Getting to the housed from the airport has been simplified by a new Freeway - "H3". Not only has the journey time been reduced to 30 minutes without risk of congestion and delays, but also a whole new set of spectacular views has been opened up.

Leaving the airport take the H1 Freeway in the WAIANAI direction. Stick with H1 (this requires concentration!) until Exit 13B. Initially this is signposted for Honolulu, but closer to the exit it is signed H3 KANEOHE. Take this exit and follow signs to H3 and Kaneohe - it's not difficult to be led back to Honolulu here. Follow H3 up Halawa Valley, through a tunnel and out onto the windward side. Go past a couple of turn offs to Kaneohe until you find one signposted for KAILUA. Take this onto a dual carriageway leading down to the edge of Kailua. Turn right at the second set of lights onto ONEAWA Street - it's signposted again here for Kailua. Follow Oneawa straight on into the centre of Kailua. At the main junction in the middle of "town", Oneawa changes into KAILUA ROAD. Follow this past some large stores including Long's Drugs & Liberty House. Kailua Road will now lead you out of town past a playing field on the left. A little way beyond this there is a set of lights controlling a left fork. Take this left fork - you'll find it's still Kailua Road. Continue on until you merge right with Kalaheo Drive at the Kalapawai Market. Keep going and in a few hundred yards you will see the sea on your left through the trees of Kailua Beach Park. Continue along the shore, past Buzz's Original Steakhouse and head left to take the road round the point into Lanikai, which is marked by a stone pillar. Once in Lanikai, follow the one way system along Aalapapa Drive, which runs along the back. Take the second road on the left (Mokumanu) down to its end at Mokulua Drive. 942 is the entrance diagonally across the T junction to the left of the right of way.

Well done! Take your shoes off, find the beach and relax.
