Lanikai Beach, Oahu, Hawai'i

This one of the most perfect places on earth...

Located right on the beach in Lanikai, our family getaway is in a special place. Whether you want to escape the pressures of the big city, to leave behind a cold winter or simply unwind for a while and get the soul back together, this is an ideal spot. Conde' Nast Traveler's Magazine 1995 rating of the top ten coastal beaches of the United States includes Lanikai Beach as the United States' most scenic beach. The magazine's beach expert states that, "The sand is whiter than on most Hawaiian beaches, and the water color is the prettiest I've seen." The beach continues to receive acclaims, alternating with the adjacent Kailua Beach in the pundits reports. However, Lanikai is more special than Kailua......

Lanikai Beach offers calm waters and great swimming. Uncrowded, it's also a great spot for windsurfing, kayaking and snorkling. A bike trail circles Lanikai on a one way loop, so biking, running, or roller blading are at your doorstep. The community park is a block away, complete with playground equipment, basketball hoops, and a lawn area large enough for a baseball or soccer game. Or if you rather, Lanikai is the perfect place for doing nothing. You can spend your days sitting in the garden watching the ocean or reading a book. Then when the spirit moves you, take a dip and lie on one of the most spectacular beaches in the world. This is also the spot for watching the sunrise, the moonrise and the stars

Lanikai is located on the windward side of Oahu, about 30 minutes drive from Honolulu, its airport and Waikiki. There is a golf course in back of the area. Just five minutes away is the quiet town of Kailua with supermarkets, shops, restaurants, tennis courts and watersports rental/adventure outfits. Oahu is home to a host of fine places to eat, but the finest is Buzz's Original Steakhouse. Luckily this is three minutes up the road! No need to go any further!

Directions from the airport

Lanikai is at the east end of Kailua on the island of Oahu. It's easy to hop to any of the other islands from Honolulu - flights are frequent and fast. Bookings can be made in Kailua. There's also much more to Oahu than the touristed Waikiki. Golfcourses abound on Oahu. The unspoilt north shore is the mecca for surfers woldwide, and Waimea Bay can be home to the largest waves ridden anywhere. The forested mountains in the centre of the island form a spectacular backdrop and are also excellent for hiking in. Some excellent dive sites are within reach and trips can be arranged in Kailua. Horseriding is another possibility.
